Protein

Aleisha Smith

When we consume protein our body breaks it down into amino acids. There are 20 different types of amino acids; 9 of these are essential and as our bodies cannot synthesis these it’s important we consume these types of amino acids in our diet. The other 11 are non-essential amino acids, which can be synthesised in the body from Hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon atoms, and to a lesser extent, sulphur We synthesize new proteins for or body by breaking up food protein and reconstructing it to be used as functional and/or structural properties in our own bodies. Most of our protein is stored in the body as muscle and can be used as a source of energy. REMEMBER: Protein is present in both, ANIMALS AND PLANTS. The amino acid profile of animal proteins is closer to that of humans but all of the necessary amino acids can be provided in the amounts needed from plant sources. .
